A Guide to the French Riviera by Annabelle Belmondo

What's your favourite Summer Destination?
This is such a hard one because I love so many different places for different reasons, but I have to say that the feeling of being on the Côte d’Azur completely embodies what summer should feel like to me. I think it’s because I grew up spending my summers in Saint-Tropez with my grandfather and family—it brings back those youthful, carefree memories every time I go. The hot and slightly humid air, the soothing sound of cicadas all day long, the golden sunsets, the smell of pine trees, the mini mokes zipping through town, and the beach club restaurants with women modeling sparkly beach dresses… it’s all so quintessentially South of France. And even though I sometimes complain about how packed it gets in summer, I keep coming back—because it just wouldn’t be summer without it.

Where to Stay?
I’ve never stayed in a hotel in Saint-Tropez. We’ve always rented houses—usually set back, not right in town or on the beach. It’s so nice to be in a quiet countryside setting, just five minutes from the action. For the past few years, we’ve been renting homes with Le Collectionist, and they’ve been wonderful.

Where to Eat?
La Réserve
A beautiful beach restaurant that’s also kid-friendly.

Les Moulins
Great for early dinners, with a big pétanque court and trees all around. It feels like dining in the forest.

Plage des Salins
So typical of the region: casual, not flashy. You dine with your feet in the sand while kids play by the sea.

Le Sénéquier
A Saint-Tropez classic. Great for coffee, ice cream, and people-watching.

Pan Dei Palais (Hotel Airelles)
A calm and elegant courtyard restaurant with tables around a beautiful pool. The food is incredible and the vibe is relaxed yet chic.

Where to Shop?
There’s endless shopping in Saint-Tropez! Every luxury brand opens their doors for the summer season. The most beautiful stores are Chanel and Dior, both housed in historic villas in town. The Dior store even has a lovely café out front (currently closed for renovations). I also adore wandering through the small interior décor shops—though I never remember their names!
What to See (Hidden Gems)?
Near the house we rent is a beautiful seaside path that leads all the way into town, starting from Baie des Canebiers. It’s about a 30-minute walk right along the water and such a peaceful way to experience the area.
If you’re looking for something cultural beyond the beach, shopping, and dining, visit Château de la Moutte—a stunning and lesser-known historic site that’s well worth seeing.
